Invertebrate Ireland
By Erik Eblana
Invertebrate Ireland shrieks deep and bawls,
At pails of lies discharged to all
‘Grow to a ripe old age’ they said
But don’t expect your health bills paid.
Invertebrate Ireland spends, yet scrapes
To make ends meet use credit brace.
As advised by a sweetened TD ripe,
Who feathers her nest with carrots and briers.
Invertebrate Ireland purrs, kowtows
To all the crazy plans they’ve ploughed
Decentralise and move, they said was best
But the rural idyll is but poverty more picturesque.
Invertebrate Ireland sifts for truth
Although barbed words have taken pungent root.
Their voices, with pierced tongues by quill,
Enthral the crowd with a silken twisted will.
Invertebrate Ireland; Raise that spineless starry flag!
To summon help from a national plan,
For a fistful of illusions is now punching home
And strikes and fear will wedge you and yours in, all alone.
